A celebration of life for Walter Howard Collins, 62, of Alto will be held Friday, November 3, at 10 AM, at the O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Chapel in Alto with Judge Chris Davis officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Alto. Walter passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023, in Rusk. Walter was born in Ft. Worth, Texas, November 22, 1960, to W.H. “Jack” Collins and Dorothy Loise Bobo Collins. The family moved to Alto when Walter was 2 years old. Walter lived most of his life in Alto and graduated from Alto High School. He worked in the concrete industry for many years and loved hunting and fishing. Walter enjoyed traveling with his job and returning home to Alto. He loved good Mexican food and Pizza with a “cold one.” Walter was a generous, tender and good man who loved his family and adored his friends. He treasured the community, faith and friendship that were the bedrock of growing up in a small town. Walter truly lived his life on his own terms. Walter was preceded in death by his parents W.H. and Dorothy Bobo Collins. Walter is survived by sisters Kathy Collins Turner and husband John of Cedar Park, Tx. and Marla Collins Grimes and husband Bill of McDade, Tx. and brother Jack W. Collins of Alto, nieces Kimberly Schlemmer (Lee), Kristy Bice, Leona Collins and Kate Grimes, nephews Walter Grimes and Will Grimes (Ashley), great nieces and nephews Hannah Few (Caleb), Sam Schlemmer, Billy Grimes, Audrey Bice, Eli Collins, Avonlea Few, Elizabeth Few, Eva Few, Caroline Grimes and Charlotte Grimes. Walter is also survived by his longtime friend and mentor Jim Bice. In honor of Walter please make memorials to Mt. Zion Cemetery Association, 2121 CR 2436 Alto 75925.
