Funeral services for Thomas Albert Self, Jr., 67, of Nacogdoches will be 5 PM Friday, July 9, 2021 at Dickie Allen Funeral Chapel in Cushing, Texas with Bro. Sonny Scarborough officiating. Visitation starts at 4 PM followed by Interment at Friendship Cemetery in Cushing directly after visitation services. Thomas Albert Self, Jr passed away July 5, 2021 in Dallas Texas. Thomas Albert Self, Jr. was born to Thomas Albert Self, Sr. and Melva Joyce Furra Self in Houston, Texas on August 19,1953. He is proud United States Army veteran (Vietnam) and former member of the 82nd Airborne (All American Division) serving in Military Intelligence. Thomas married Theresa Katherine Risso on August 20, 1979 and they were married for forty-two years. A Graduate from the University of Houston-Downtown (aka Harvard on the Bayou) with a Batchelors in Business. He worked as an accountant in Houston before moving to Nacogdoches in 1985. He was a member of the Landmark Baptist Church in Cushing. In 1985, Thomas built laying houses on Flowery Mountain working for Holly Farms later Tyson. He enjoyed helping others in his community. He worked with those struggling addiction, as manager at the Albert Orton Foundation which serviced halfway houses and other programs. He was a true motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with family and friends alike. He was an avid reader and had many hobbies raising fish, and quail. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas A Self, Sr (2007) and Melva Joyce Furra Self (2016), brother-in-law Otis Gene Lanning (2017), Uncle Marcus Autry Furra, Mother-in-law Evelyn Rose Abbott-Lopez and father-in-law Paul P. Lopez. He is survived by his wife Theresa Katherine Self of Nacogdoches, son Thomas Albert Self, III and April of Nacogdoches, daughter Cindy and husband Mike Evans of Cushing, sisters Evelyn Christine Lanning of New Waverly, and Dorothy Jean Self and Wally of Conroe; grandchildren Courtney Evans of Cushing, Hunter and Kasey Kesinger of Cushing; Precious great granddaughter Kallie Grace Kesinger; nieces and nephews include Roger and Diane Castleberry, Christopher and Melissa Lanning, Tina and Shane Vanderberg, numerous great nieces and nephews, and a few dear friends. He will truly be missed.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse Wayne Furra, Casey Castleberry, Austin Lanning, and Wally Self.
Pallbearers include Mike Evans, Roger Castleberry, Christian Castleberry, Christopher Lanning, Curtis Jackson, and Shane Vandenberg.
