Born in Groveton, Texas in Trinity County on August 4, 1931 to Edward Thomas Jones and Eula Jane Kay Jones Grimes (Roy Lee Grimes). Peggy was a loving wife and mother. She was a homemaker and lived in Houston, Texas before moving to Reklaw, Texas. At the age of ~50 years old, she wanted to move closer to her mom (Eula) and
always had visions of having some acreage with cattle and growing a big garden. So, she left the city life behind in 1982 and purchased 52-acres in Reklaw, Texas.
Peggy grew up during the depression and never threw ANYTHING away, (food, clothes, appliances) unless it was totally spent. She had her refrigerator for over 40 years before it stopped working, and refused to replace it until it just gave out. Although it was all rusted on the outside, it still did the job, just didn’t look pretty and shiny. She had an affinity for antiques and had many antique “treasures” she has bought over the years. She loved gardening, growing roses, pecan and peach trees, loved fresh peaches, and walking outdoors. She was never one to complain or ask for help and was very independent. Oh, and she was as “hard-headed as a mule.” She was a joy to all that knew her and will be deeply missed.
After moving to Reklaw in 1982, Peggy worked for Rusk State Hospital 10-years before her retirement in November 1994 as a Health Care Worker. She always loved to harvest the fallen pecans from the hospital grounds for the freezer. Another joy she loved, loved, loved, was “going to the casino”. She would often times drive herself to Shreveport and stay overnight night, or two, and come back home the next day. That was her entertainment! She could sure play a “mean” game of Blackjack and win those dollars. At the age of 89, she voluntarily gave up driving and depended on her sons to take her to town.
In her later years, Peggy depended on a walker to get around after breaking both hips during separate falls.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Judy and Shelia, and to everyone that provided assistance to Peggy towards the end of her journey.
Her Loving Children
Patricia, Karen, Mitchell and Tim
