Mary Germany Obituary

 

Funeral Mass for Mary Germany, 80, of Alto, will be Monday, January 21st, at 2:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rusk with Father Jorge Dinguis officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Palestine Cemetery in Alto. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 20th, from 5-7 PM followed by a 7 PM Rosary, also at Sacred Heart Church. Mrs. Germany left to be with our Lord Thursday, January 17th in Nacogdoches. She was born May 8th, 1938 in El Paso to Martin and Julia B. Esquivel.  She married Bill Germany in 1957, and they moved to Van Horn, Texas to raise their family. They later moved to Alto where she lived for the last 42 years.  She was retired from the Rusk State Hospital and remained very active in community affairs. She was a CASA advocate for many years, a volunteer Ombudsman for the elderly, a hospice volunteer, as well as an avid volunteer for immigrants rights. In 2008 she was a recipient of the Bishop’s Humanitarian award. She also served several years on the advisory council for MHMR. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill Germany, sisters Stella, Alice, Rose, Margaret, Jenny and Vera and brother Martin. She is survived by daughters and son-in-law Debbie Tyer of New Braunfels and D.D. Clark (Steve) of Rusk, son Billy Germany of Alto, brothers and sisters-in-law Frank Esquivel (Terie) and Ruben Esquivel (Elmira) of El Paso and sister and brother-in-law Alma Franco (Simon) of El Paso as well as grandchidren Cameron, Collin, Jessica, Cory, Megan and Jonathan and great grandchildren Audrey, Braxton, Adalynn, Maverick, Skyla, Liam and Charlotte. Pallbearers are Cameron Tyer, Collin Tyer, Jonathan Matthews, Cory Germany, Jesus Martinez and Steve Clark. Honorary pallbearers are Lyle Brown, Nicholas Gonzalez, Robert Robertson and Jim Moses.
