Joyce Hopkins Obituary

After a courageous fight with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, Joyce McGaughey Hopkins, 79 years, of Georgetown, Texas went to be with Jesus on June 7, 2022. Celebration of life for Mrs. Hopkins will be Tuesday, June 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cold Springs United Methodist Church. Burial will be held in the Alto City Cemetery under the direction of O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home, Alto. Joyce was born and raised in the Cold Springs Community of Alto, TX. She attended business school and worked as a secretary/administrative assistant throughout her career. She retired from the Richmond State School in January 2000. Joyce loved spending time with her family and friends, attending church and Bible studies, playing Canasta, Liverpool rummy and 42, sewing, shopping, cooking, and gardening. Joyce spent her last 10 years in Georgetown where she lived within a mile of her brother and sister. She found amazing friends and Bible study groups at the Worship Place where she attended church. She was surrounded by precious neighbors and friends who lovingly cared for her in recent months. She listened well, laughed often, and made everyone’s favorite meals while visiting. Her egg pudding, butterscotch and apple pies were amazing! She was not one to shy away in the pursuit of winning games - her infamous excitement of getting a “YAHTZEE” will be passed on for generations to come. Her genuine kindness, listening ear and sweet spirit will be dearly missed. She was proceeded in death by her late husband, James Hopkins and parents Charles Henry and Ruth Anniece McGaughey. She is survived by daughter Tresa Patti of Rosenberg, TX; son-in-law Andy Patti; son Terry Derr of Sugar Land, TX; daughter-in-law Tracy Derr; daughter Cynthia Turner of Broken Arrow, OK; son-in-law Todd Turner. Grandchildren: Megan Masiel (Sam), Lindsey Zulkowski (Dustin), Josh Patti (Amanda), Trevor Derr (Leah), Taylor Foger (Spencer), Katie Turner and Chase Turner.
