Graveside funeral services for Rev. Herman D. Martin, 74, of Alto will be 11 AM Thursday at St. Thomas Chapel Cemetery with Rev. K.B. Clater officiating. Rev. Martin passed away Thursday, January 21, in Alto. He was born May 9, 1946 in Rochester, Texas to Clarence Martin and Lavada Brown Martin. Herman Lived most of his life in Alto and lived in Dallas for a few years. Herman was a member of the Weeping Mary Baptist Church and he had served as a minister at church’s in Lufkin, Rusk, San Augustine and Nacogdoches. Herman had worked at Murphy Metal in Dallas, Texas Foundry in Lufkin, Cherokee County Pct. 2 and Pearman Motor Company. Herman was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clarence Martin Jr., Joseph Martin, Freddie Martin, Larry Martin and Johnnie Martin, sisters Dorothy Brantley, Ethel Ford and Barbara Sweargin. Herman is survived by wife Emmie Martin of Winona, sons and daughters-in-law Herman Martin (Becky) of Laneville, Terrell Martin of Alto, Marcus Martin of Alto, George Martin (Kelly) of Katy and Messiah Martin of Alto, daughters and sons-in-law Lavada Jenkins (Draper) of Tyler and Alicia Shepard (Eric) of Beaumont, sister Emma Garcia (Frank) of Lubbock as well as a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. There will be a “come and go” visitation Wednesday at the funeral home in Alto from 1 pm to 6 pm.
