Gwynn Elaine Moffitt of Nacogdoches, Texas passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer on September 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, compassion, and dedication to her family, community, and beloved animals.
A memorial service honoring her life will be held at 1:00 PM October 11, 2025 at Dickie Allen Funeral Home, 989 7th Street, Cushing, Texas, Pastor Jonathan Mansur officiating. A gathering for family and friends will immediately follow the memorial service at the Landmark Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 912 7th Street, Cushing, TX
Born the daughter of an Air Force pilot in Kittery, Maine, Gwynn experienced a life of travel and adaptability, growing up across the United States in cities such as Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Roswell, New Mexico; Riverside, California; and Omaha, Nebraska. These experiences enriched her perspective and shaped her into the caring and dynamic individual she was.
Gwynn earned a degree in Sports Medicine from Texas Tech University and went on to obtain a Masters in Parks and Recreation from the University of Nebraska. Her professional journey included work at Sam Houston State University and teaching in the Katy Independent School District. Eventually, she made her home in Nacogdoches, Texas, where she began a long and fulfilling career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 26 years of service.
In addition to her postal work, Gwynn took pride in running a pool cleaning business around Nacogdoches—a job she cherished because it connected her with so many in the community. She developed deep roots in nearby Cushing, Texas, a town she loved and called her own. An avid athlete, Gwynn played soccer, ran marathons, enjoyed biking, and enthusiastically supported numerous community fundraising events. She also had a passion for travel, often exploring the world alongside her mother, family members, and friends. Above all, Gwynn had a profound love for animals. She demonstrated this by serving on the Board of Directors of the Humane Society of Nacogdoches County. Over the years, she personally rescued and cared for more than a dozen dogs and eight cats - each one a cherished member of her family.Gwynn will be fondly remembered by her loving family, her many friends, and the residents of Cushing, Texas. Her vibrant spirit, generous heart, and unwavering dedication to those around her leave behind a beautiful legacy that will not be forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her father, Albert R. Moffitt, Jr., and her stepfather, Dr. Roland Hoff; grandparents Albert and Lina Moffitt; Grandmother Molly Moffitt; and grandparents Walter and Ruby Berry.
Gwynn is survived by her devoted mother, Doris Moffitt Hoff; her brother, Albert R. Moffitt III, and sister-in-law, Loraine Moffitt; her niece, Alyson Mansur, and husband Jonathan; her nephew, Michael Moffitt, and wife Cori; and her beloved great-nieces and nephews: Sophie, Evyn, Abbie, and Cooper Mansur, and Warren, Bridget, and Rachel Moffitt.
