Freddie Gene Smelley

Freddie Gene Smelley, 76, of Cushing, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday December 19, 2023, with family at his bedside. Freddie was born September 15, 1947, to Gilbert (Shorty) Smelley and Faye (Fenton) Smelley, both preceding him in death. His siblings preceding him in death include Ann (Smelley) Randall, Daryl Smelley, and Billy Jo Smelley. Surviving siblings include Linda Jo Smelley and Cecil Ray (Pete) Smelley. Freddie served his country faithfully in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict. He worked construction as a backhoe operator for many years across Texas. He was a man of few words, but of great humor. He was an avid reader of old western novels. His favorite place was fishing on a river or a lake with his fishing buddies.

A Visitation for Freddie will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Dickie Allen Funeral Home in Cushing, Texas, from 6pm-8pm.  There will be a Graveside Service for Freddie at McKnight Cemetery in Cushing, Texas on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 10:00 am with Tuffy Randall  Officiating.  Military Honors will be presented by the United States Army.

Pallbearers will be:  Tuffy Randall, Shane Smelley, Buck Smelley, Scott Smelley, Terry Smelley & Terry Gene Smelley.  Honorary Pallbearers will be:  James Ray Barns, Mike Nichols, James Dempsey, Sandy Sanders, Steve Doughty, James Ham and Dennis Sanders.
