Evelyn Brown Obituary

Evelyn Gaye Dodson Brown stepped into the arms of her Lord and Savior, fully healed and complete, on Monday, December 9, 2024.  Born May 27, 1954  in Fort Worth to Rev. George and Joyce Dodson, Gaye moved to Nacogdoches in 1965, graduating from Nacogdoches High School and Stephen F. Austin State University.

As a teacher of 24 years, Gaye was known for her creative and innovative methods, encouraging the many students she taught at Lufkin High School and Hudson Middle School. Over the years of her career, Gaye taught Homemaking, Life Skills, ESL and Language Arts. She was the founder of the Supper Club, a group of retired friends who enjoy monthly gatherings at local restaurants. Gaye also served as a volunteer at Medical Center Hospital for several years.

As a light in this world, Gaye had a loving and giving spirit. When life became challenging with her many health issues, she met them with grace, strength and faith in her Savior. Gaye entertained us all with her stories and beautifully written poetry. In addition she loved to craft and draw, and for many years was an accomplished seamstress. Gaye loved posting news about her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments, and adored her nieces and nephews and their children. A faithful friend to many, she celebrated their triumphs and prayed for them during their times of distress.

Gaye is survived by her beloved husband Nolan Brown, son Ethan Francis and wife Julie of Dallas, grandson Ben Francis, and granddaughter Ayla Francis, daughter Angela Strong and husband Brett of The Woodlands and their children Luke, Ella, and Kate Strong.  Gaye is also survived by her loving brothers and sister Debbie Haas (Mike), Milt Dodson (Kaye), Mark Dodson (Jennifer), and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A family celebration of life service is to be held in January.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Kidney Fund.

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life….shall separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”       Romans 8: 38a & 39b
