Eoles Burist, Sr. Obituary

A memorial service for Eoles Burist, Sr., 80, of Cushing will be Saturday November 16th, 2024 at 2pm at the Dickie Allen Funeral Home Chapel. 

Eoles Burist was born March 18, 1944, in Rusk County, Texas, to the late Samp Burist (Sr.) and Emma Ward Burist. Eoles entered eternal rest on November 2, 2024, at the age of 80. Eoles (aka Bub or Pops) graduated from J.J. Rhoads School in 1962. That same year, he married Dorothy McFail, and the couple relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada. Eoles continued his education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, earning a bachelor's degree in sociology. Eoles was employed for more than two decades at the Nevada State Department of Parole and Probation, where he advanced to the role of supervisor and was later appointed to the Nevada State Parole Board. He ultimately became Chairman of the Parole Board, reporting directly to the governor. After his distinguished career, Eoles spent over 25 years in retirement. His passion for gardening, fishing, and tinkering with home projects was a source of joy for him throughout his life.

Eoles was preceded in death by his daughter, Anedra Botts; his parents, Samp and Emma Burist; his brothers Samp Burist Jr., Equilla Burist (wife Esther), Herman Burist, Melvin Burist Sr., and Willie D. Burist; and his sisters Maurine Nealy, Verlene Burist, Ethel Lee Woodard, Ida Vera Johnson, Mae Hester Henderson, and Wilma J. Hollis.

He is survived by his sons, Eoles Burist Jr., Michael Burist, and Jeffrey Burist; his first wife Dorothy Burist; his second wife, Henrietta Burist (divorced for many years); extended children Edgerton Hartwell, Rosie Hartwell, Wynona White, Terry Wheaton II, James (Bo) Wheaton, Kenneth Wheaton, and Tara Tyler; siblings Maxcine Mitchell, and William T. Burist; grandchildren Antoine Botts, Sean Botts, Tyler Worley, Isaiah Burist, Cameron Burist, Isaac Burist, Lauryn Burist, and Jordan Sweeney; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. His was a life was well lived, as evidenced by how much he is loved.
