Billy Weldy Obituary

Billy Vance Weldy, 88, of Katy, Texas, went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Cushing City Cemetery, with arrangements by Dickie Allen Funeral Home in Cushing, Texas.

Billy was born on October 11, 1937, in Wink, Texas, to Frances and James Weldy. He attended high school in Kermit, Texas, where he spent four memorable years under the Friday night lights playing football. His talent earned him a full football scholarship to Stephen F. Austin University, where he graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

On December 19, 1961, Billy married Gail Smith, in Tyler, Texas. He proudly served in the United States Army Reserves beginning in 1961 and received an honorable discharge in 1967.

Billy built a distinguished lifelong career in the oil and gas industry. He began with Rowan Drilling from 1961 to 1967 and later worked for Dresser Engineers as a Pneumatic Instrumentation Superintendent from 1968 to 1970. He then co-founded Imacco, Inc., specializing in pneumatic instrumentation and electrical construction for industrial plants and offshore installations for major oil companies across Louisiana from 1970 to 1974. From 1975 to 2009, he was employed by Randall Corporation, where he served as a Pneumatic Instrumentation and Startup Manager.  Later, as the Project Manager, he was responsible for overseeing construction of modular cryogenic gas plants and NGL recovery units for ABB Randall Corp. He concluded his career as a consultant with Pluspetrol from 2010 to 2011, contributing to the construction of a cryogenic gas plant in Pisco, Peru.

Billy was a proud member of the Sawyers at Stephen F. Austin University and a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. He cherished time spent with family and friends and had a love for football at every level. He enjoyed following players from their high school days through college and into their professional careers, often remembering names and stories along the way.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Clinton; stepfather, Ray Clinton; sister, Donna Adams; maternal grandparents, William and Vance Arnold; uncle, Edward Arnold; aunt, Betty Ledbetter; and nephew, Michael Adams.

Billy will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gail Weldy; his sons, Bradley Weldy (Laurie) and Stephen Weldy (Jacqueline); his grandchildren, Emily Weldy, Heather Wilson, Haley Weldy, Hannah Weldy, and Haven Weldy; great-granddaughter, Caydence Horton; and his sisters, Pauline Hebert and Frances Pinho.
