Funeral services for Billy Joe Smelley, 69, of Cushing will be 10:00 am Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Dickie Allen Funeral Home in Cushing, Texas. Visitation will be Friday, August 27, 2021 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm at Dickie Allen Funeral Home. Billy Joe Smelley passed away Thursday at his home in Cushing surrounded by his family and loved ones. Billy Joe Smelley was born November 18, 1951 to "Shorty" Smelley and Vera Fae "Granny" Smelley in Cushing. Billy Joe was a life long resident of Cushing, Texas. Billy Joe met his wife of 45 years, Vicki, and married her on December 6, 1975. He worked for the Nacogdoches County Road and Bridge Department for thirty years. Billy Joe was known as a hard worker. This quality was passed on to he and his siblings. He would work sun up to sun down. He would do anything for anybody. Billy "gave and didn't ask." Family was very important to him. Billy Joe was also a homebody and enjoyed teasing his wife whom he loved so much. He could be heard saying on the phone to someone, "tell Vicki how to cook." He loved her very much. Billy Joe was a Dallas Cowboys fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Darryl Smelley, sister Ann Randall, and nephew Carlton Ray Smelley. He is survived by his wife Vicki of Cushing, son Scott and husband Karoi Smelley of Manhattan, Kansas, brothers Pete and wife Sandra Smelley of Cushing, Freddie Gene Smelley of Cushing, sisters Linda Jo Smelley and Joellen and husband Doug Stedman of Oklahoma. Billy also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Omar Villalobos, Shane Smelley, Scott Smelley, Scott Smelley, Buck Smelley, Coby Denham, and Tuff Randall
Honorary Pallbearer include C.H. Penney and Terry Smelley.
Following services the repast will be at Shane Smelley's home.
