Funeral services for Betty Brooks Curry, 92, of Alto, will be Tuesday, October 14 at 2 PM in the Campground Baptist Church near Alto with Rev. Floyd Simpson officiating. A visitation is planned from 1 – 2 PM. Mrs. Curry passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025 at her home near Alto. She was born November 12, 1932 in Cherokee County to Coil Garrett Brooks and Inza Ethel Dixon Brooks. Mrs. Brooks had lived in the Lynches Chapel community near Alto for many years and had also lived in Abbeville, Louisiana. She was a homemaker and had also worked as a bookkeeper. Betty was a member of the Campground Baptist Church and loved reading, flowers and bird watching. She was preceded in death by her husband James Carlton Curry, brother Billy Brooks and grandson Ben Overby. Betty is survived by daughters Kelly Jo Curry of Alto, Sherry Curry Overby and husband Tom of Maryland and Joni Curry Barone and husband Race of Lindale, brother Joe Brooks of Alto, sister-in-law Linda Brooks of Alto, grandchildren Emily, Jennifer, Jayna and Trey and great grandchildren Chase, Harper, Lily, Baily, Nicholas, Roland, Rosalene and Liam. Burial will follow the church service at Lynches Chapel Cemetery. Betty’s daughters ask that in honor and memory of their mother to do a random act of kindness for someone.
