A Funeral Mass for Amelia Monique Shaw, 59, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held Saturday December 11th, 2021 at 11am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nacogdoches with Monsignor James E. Young. There will be a visitation Friday December 10th from 6-8pm at the Dickie Allen Funeral Home with a Rosary starting at 7pm.
Monique was born on September 18, 1962 as one of an identical set of girls. Angelique was her lifelong friend and companion. Their childhood has been described as difficult, even harsh, but Monique had an overcomer’s spirit. She worked hard to improve her life and got her GED then a diploma for a Certified Nurse Assistant and then a Registered Medical Assistant. Finally, she was able to become a phlebotomist. She was well respected and like everywhere that she worked.
She helped family, friends and neighbors whenever possible. This included any four legged neighbors that were around. She always had a dog and considered them family. She loved animals and named the cows she raised. She enjoyed the plants in her garden and growing her own vegetables, canning and making homemade jam. She also enjoyed crafts and was thrilled to be able to quilt. She also enjoyed fishing bowling and festivals.
Monique was married to Milton Ray Shaw and they lived in Nacogdoches, where they had plenty of cows around to tend. She was also a practicing catholic and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She often mentioned Monsignor Young and how his homilies shaped her faith. It is very fitting that he will be with us during this time.
The last eight years of Monique’s life were very painful and she could no longer do the things she enjoyed doing, especially doing what she would have liked with her family. In her last years, she went to her sister Angelique, who cared for her until her death on December 3,2021.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Chet and Molly Lovin, her mother, Marie Lovin, baby sister, Jami Lynn Grounds, Granddaughter, Kelsey Lewis, Aunt, Ann Lovin, Uncle, Hank Williams, and brother in law, Carl Clendennen.
She is survived by her husband, Milton Ray Shaw, son, Richard Grounds and wife Kim Grounds, grandchildren Justice, Stephanie, Kelly, Mathew and Jacob Gounds and great granddaughter Amiyah Barnes, daughter Shanda Matney and husband Brent Matney and grandchildren Edward Lewis the 3rd, Madison Norred, Braylynn Matney and Levi Kulikowsk, aunt Amelia Lovin, sister, Angelique Clendennen, nephew, Daniel Clendennen, niece Samantha McGregor, brother in law Mark Shaw and wife, Rebecca Shaw.
