Funeral services for Wanda Jo Noland, 91, of Alto will be Friday, May 1st at the Hilltop Baptist Church with Rev. Dusty Lee officiating. The family will receive visitors from 1 PM to 2 PM at the church before services begin. Wanda Jo Ash Noland was born April 18, 1935 in Abilene, Texas to Joe W. Ash and Ollie Myrtle Hester Ash. Wanda graduated from Aztec high school in Aztec, New Mexico in 1953 and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Las Cruses, New Mexico since 1969. She had worked as a bookkeeper to put her husband through college where he earned his bachelor's degree, masters and then his PH.D in Columbus, Ohio. She later went back to work to put her 3 children through college at New Mexico State University. The WMU (Woman's Missionary Union) was a great passion of her's throughout her lifetime. She served as director and associate director of the WMU for years as well as the WMU state board of New Mexico. She also worked with the G.A. and Acteens as a leader. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren learned to sit through WMU meetings quietly. Church was an important part of her family's life and they attended Sunday mornings, evenings and Wednesday night. No excuse, they were to attend church. Her children were raised with respect and honor for their Lord Jesus Christ and all three accepted Jesus into their lives. She was a babysitter for Leslie's 3 children and loved watching her great grandchildren. Danika's son Avery, loved to go visit his GiGi. They would find their Mom sitting on the floor playing cars or going down the slide with Avery. This never happened with her children or grandchildren. Most of her life was lived in New Mexico except for living in Columbus, Ohio while her husband Warren attended Ohio State University and Stillwater, Oklahoma when Warren was an associate professor at Oklahoma State University. They moved to Las Cruses in 1969 when Warren became an associate professor at New Mexico State. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, husband Warren Noland, daughter Lynda McCameron, grandson Avery Jackson Dunphy and brother Willis Winston Ash. She is survived by Children Leslie Owens and husband Kevin of Alto and Gary Noland and wife Carmen of Chickasha, Oklahoma, sisters Alice Ann Pietzsch, Rosalie Ash Duncan, Peggy Joyce Windebank and Jennie Mae Zaidema, brother Clinton Stacy Ash, grandchildren Brittany Young and husband Travis, Danika Thompson and husband Miles, Jaymin Jackson and wife Tiffany, Talley Gresham and husband Joshua, Olivia Noland Elliot and husband Ethan, Madeline Wessel and husband Justin and Kayla Nelson and husband Steven and Meredith Noland, great grandchildren Blair Young, Landon Young, Braxton Jackson, Nolie Gresham, Hayes Gresham, Reese Gresham, Jude Denver Gresham, Parker Elliot, Mason Lee Wessel, Mabel Joyce Wessel, Payson Nelson and Lyndon Nelson.
