Roger M.
Baker
January 13, 1930 – June 15, 2017
A Celebration of the life of Roger M. Baker, Senior Roger M. Baker Sr., died June 15, 2017 at the Houston Hospice at the Texas Medical Center. The son of Jesse and Jewel Baker, is survived by his wife, Eleanor; his daughters Susan and husband Larry; Cindy and husband David; Mary Jane and husband Steve; daughter-in-law Sue; many grandchildren and two great grandchildren. His son, Revered Dr. Roger M. Baker, OSL died on February 20, 2017. Mourning him also are his many friends, students and clients, residents of Brookdale Clear Lake and Brookdale Ellington field, and especially his dog, Marco Polo. Roger and Eleanor met on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas where both worked on their Master degrees. Later, Roger was awarded a Doctor of Humanities degree from the University of Belize. For many years, Roger taught 5th grade, both regular and special education classes and retired as a counselor and psychotherapist. During his teaching career, he also taught history in Canberra, Australia and elementary school in Harbel, Liberia, West Africa. After retiring from the Texas educational system, he and his wife spent 20 years lecturing on cruise ships, traveling all over the world. Roger suffered from an incurable disease: collecting old cars and buses. He studied both the development and history of old cars and often lectured as an Automotive Historian, both in the U.S. and abroad. As a Christian, Roger served the church as a Deacon and Elder. He was a lay missionary to the leper colony Ganta, Liberia, West Africa and to the "feed the hungry project" building fish ponds in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. His home church was Clear Lake Methodist Church and his Sunday School class was the Voyagers. Roger will be remembered by both friends for his love of the Lord and service in his name. He has a positive outlook, a ready smile, and a generous heart. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to: • Drs.
