Obituary

Bullard – A private memorial is pending for Rena Beth McGaughey, 74, of Bullard. Mrs. McGaughey died Tuesday, December 19, in College Station. She was born August 6, 1943, in Dallas, Texas to James Southerland and Margaret Simmons Southerland. She had lived in Bullard for many years and was a member of the Emerald Bay Community Church. Rena had served 35 years in public education as a teacher, counselor and administrator. She had also owned Twirling, Tumbling and All That Jazz studios. She had been the Captain for the Kilgore Rangerettes in 1962-63, had an associate's degree from Kilgore College, Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Mid Management degree from UT Tyler. Rena was the first woman Rotarian at the Sunrise Rotary in Tyler and a member of numerous other organizations and community volunteer projects. She is survived by husband Charles D. "Dickey" McGaughey, daughters Kelly Knight (Grant) and Holly DeLoach (Collins), grandchildren Kayla Knight, Zachary DeLoach and Casey DeLoach, brother Jerry Southerland (Barbara) and sister Jimmi Pittmon. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Cancer Center.
