James Pyle

Ouida Jo James Pyle, age 81, died peacefully on September 8, 2017. She was born in Alto, Texas on April 2, 1936 to Bertie Pool James and William Paulton James. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Joe Lee (J.L.) Pyle, Jr.; who she married on December 23, 1955 at First Baptist Church Alto, Texas and shared 58 wonderful years together. Ouida is also preceded in death by her parents, Bertie Pool ("Dolliie") and William Paulton ("Pete") James; her brother, William Donald James; her mother and father-in-law, Martha Pauline and Joe Lee Pyle. She is survived by her daughter, Jaleea Pyle-George, Houston, Texas, and her grandson, Colin Robert George along with his wife, Daniela, of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by nephews, Craig James and wife, Marilyn, of Celina, Texas, and Chris James of Nacogdoches, Texas, as well as many other family members and friends. Ouida graduated from Alto High School, and was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin University where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and a Master's Degree in Education. Ouida began her teaching career at Central High School in Lufkin, Texas where she taught for 10 years, and she continued her teaching profession for the next 28 years at Cimarron Elementary School in the Galena Park School District in Houston, Texas. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society for distinguished educators as well as a member of the Nacogdoches Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolutionary War. Ouida was a member of South Main Baptist Church since 1977 and a faithful member of the Women's Bible Class, Senior Adult Council, and Mainstreamers. She enjoyed the Bible study, the music, SMBC Trinity Pines Senior Retreats, and all the special friendships cultivated throughout the 40 years. Visitation will be held at O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home in Alto, Texas from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday September 10, 2017. A graveside service will follow at Lynches Chapel Cemetery conducted by Greg Funderburk. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday September 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of South Main Baptist Church. Dr. Steve Wells, pastor, will officiate the Celebration of Life Service. A reception will follow in the Welcome Center. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to South Main Baptist Church, 4100 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77002.
