Melba Joyce Smith, 56, of Nacogdoches, TX passed away on Jul 7, 2023 in Nacogdoches, TX.

A memorial service will be held at New Faith Church of Sacul, TX on Sunday, July 9 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Brady Willis and Pastor Dale Morton presiding. A reception will follow at the church.

Melba was born on September 5, 1966 in Dallas, TX to Elmer and Laverne Dempsey. She graduated from Cushing High School in Cushing, TX. She worked in nursing homes and schools doing Food Service and custodial work for many years. Melba is preceded in death by her father and mother, and is now reunited with them in Heaven. Melba is survived by her daughter, Lisa, of Tyler, TX, as well as her grandchildren, Brentley and Elizabeth Low. She is also survived by her siblings Brenda Knight of Cushing, TX, Betty Hitchcox of Chico, TX, Billy Dempsey of Nacogdoches, TX, Buford Dempsey of Nacogdoches, TX, Barbara Lawrence of Oak Point, TX, Bobby Dempsey of Cushing, TX, and James Dempsey of Cushing, TX. Melba's family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff and residents of Westward Trails Nursing and Rehab of Nacogdoches, as well as Heart to Heart Hospice. Melba truly loved the people there, and we have experienced the love that developed between them.
