Funeral services for Jonathan Lee Christopher Avant, 29, of Bryan and formerly of Rusk, will be held Saturday, August 14, at 1 PM in the First Baptist Church in Rusk. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery in Alto. There will be a come and go visitation Friday, August 13, from 1-6 PM at the funeral home in Alto. Jonathan was born February 18, 1992 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Johnny Avant and Janice Christopher. He had lived in Bryan for 5 years and lived in Rusk for most of his life where he was a member of the First Baptist Church. Jonathan graduated from Rusk High School in 2010 and was an Eagle Scout. He was employed by Texas Alternative Grassers. Jonathan was preceded in death by grandparents Osceola and Betty Christopher, Cleothus and Maggie Avant and God Mother Shirley Markey. He is survived by wife Kristen Avant of Bryan, daughter Maggie Jo Avant of Bryan, parents Janice Christopher (Raymond) of Rusk and Johnny Avant of Rusk, sisters Jaskin Jenkins (Jemiah) of Rusk and Elizabeth Alford (Darren) of Rusk and step brother Raymond Hamilton of Lufkin. Pallbearers will be Josh Glover, Ladarel Christopher, Renaldo Williams, Ricky Parsons, Charles Wolfe, Josh Hill, Stephen Davis and William Jones.
