Funeral services for Evangelist Jessie Moore, 89, of Alto will be Saturday, September19, at 11 AM in the Weeping Mary Baptist Church near Alto with Rev. Lionel Whitaker and Rev. Vertis Thacker officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Thomas Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Jessie passed away Saturday, September 12 in Alto. She was born November 9, 1936 in Alto to Earnest Freeney and Roxanne Simpson. She has lived most of her life in Alto and was a member of the Weeping Mary Baptist Church, where she served as President of the Missions Committee for many years. Mrs. Jessie retired from Lufkin State School after many years and had also served as an evangelist. Her joy in life was serving others and leading them to Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years J.B. Moore, mother Roxanne Simpson, father Earnest Freeney, sister Kalanda Humphrey, brother Vernon Freeney, great grandsons Kobe & Kason, sons-in-law Matthew Hackney, Donny Hogg Sr., Lawson Ward and Sherman Mitchell and daughter-in-law Polly Smith. She is survived by daughters Gloria A. Hackney, Mary A. Hogg, Janie Ward, Jessie Faye Moore Mitchell, Janette Moore and Angela Moore, sons Eddie Moore and Jerry Bernard Moore, sister Shirley Freeny-Jones, 23 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. There will be a visitation Friday from 5-7 PM at the funeral home in Alto.
