Elmer Eugene Dempsey Dickie Allen Funeral Home - Cushing, TX (936) 326-4531 Cushing - Funeral Services for Elmer Eugene Dempsey, 83, of Cushing will be Monday, June 13th at 10 am at the Dickie Allen Funeral Home in Cushing, Texas with Pastor Mike Williams officiating. Burial will be at the McKnight Cemetery in Cushing. Mr. Dempsey died Friday, June 10th, in Nacogdoches. He was born November 22nd, 1932 in Glenfawn, Texas to Edd & Elsie Birdwell Dempsey as an only child. He lived most of his life in Cushing and was Pentecostal. Mr. Dempsey was an U.S. Navy veteran an served as a Seaman Apprentice in San Deigo, California in the early fifties. He was honorably discharged in 1952. He was married to his wife, Willie Laverne Birdwell Dempsey, September 9, 1953. Mr. Dempsey was a pulpwooder by trade and also worked as a cement truck driver at various jobs. He is survived by his wife, Willie Laverne Dempsey of Cushing, children Brenda Knight of Cushing, Betty Hitchcox of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Billy Dempsey of Cushing, Buford Dempsey of Nacogdoches, Barbara Lawrence of Garland, Bobby Dempsey of Cushing, Melba Smith of Rusk and James Dempsey of Cushing, 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Keith Delafield, Richard Johnson, Terry Thomas, Kent Knight and David Johnson. Visitation will be Sunday, June 12th, at the funeral home in Cushing.
