Funeral  services for Ellis Mitchell Sr., 87, of Alto will be held Monday, December 6, at 1 PM, at the New Hope Baptist Church in Alto with Rev. Chester Whitaker. Mr. Mitchell passed away Sunday, November 28, in Tyler. He was born April 20, 1934 in Cherokee County to Matt Mitchell and Rensie Clemons Mitchell. Ellis lived all his life in Alto and was Baptist. He had worked for many years for Issac's  Mobile Homes and part time as a carpenter. He loved the outdoors. Ellis was preceded in death by wife Geneva Mitchell, son Ellis Mitchell Jr., 14 brothers and sisters and a granddaughter Beverly Hackney. He is survived by sons Earl Mitchell of Rusk and  James "Pete" Mitchell of Dallas, daughters Philessa Kay Henderson of Shreveport and Nicole Mitchell-Hollins of Arlington, sisters Odessa Buckingham of Alto and Etta McKnight of Austin, grandchildren Jerome Lacy, Antwan Hicks, Tony Mitchell, Adrian Mitchell, Teddy Mitchell, Beverly Hackney, Terrence Mitchell, Shanika Clark, Tashia Blackshire, Shanice Henderson, Sharice Henderson, Jamarcus Mitchell, Katelyn Mitchell, Krysten Mitchell, Brayden Hollins and Rae'Leigh Hollins, great grandchildren Ella Hicks, Jordan Hicks, A.J. Mitchell Jr., Shatavia Mitchell, Jaylon Clark, Camden Baugh and Jaylin Mitchell as well as great grandchildren Damarion and Dakari. There will be a come and go viewing Sunday from 1 – 5 PM at the funeral home in Alto.
