Mrs. Dovie Jean Dover Whitaker, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, September 20th in Austin, Texas. Visitation will be held on Friday Night, September 23rd from 5 to7pm at Dickie Allen Funeral Home in Cushing and the Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 24th at 10am at Dickie Allen Funeral Home Chapel, Cushing, TX, with Pastor Jerry Wilson and Pastor Doc Lazerine officiating. Interment will follow in the Redland Cemetery, Lilbert, Texas. Dovie was born on August 5th 1935 to Joiner and Bessie Land Dover. Dovie was born into a very large and loving family as she had five brothers and three sisters. Dovie could talk for hours on end about her childhood and upbringing. After graduation Dovie met the love of her life, Marlon Duane Whitaker. That marriage brought forth four sons, Rodney, Roger, Richard and Brent. Dovie's house was where all the kids hung out at, maybe because she always had food and snacks for all as Dovie was one of the all time great cooks. She was still cooking and canning and working a garden until a few months ago. Dovie retired from Cushing ISD Cafeteria and then worked in the Cafeteria at Rusk ISD for several more years. Dovie was Momma to hundreds of kids. But most of all, Dovie was a fine christian woman who set an example for her children as Dovie loved the Lord with all her heart. Dovie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Duane, son Roger, brothers Leldon, Feldon, AC and JC, sisters Odell Hester, Nadine Partlow and Fay Few. Dovie is survived by sons Rodney Whitaker of Lilbert Tx, Richard Whitaker (wife Kellie) of Port Lavaca Tx and Brent Whitaker of Austin Tx; brother Larry Dover of Alto Tx; grandchildren Rodney Whitaker Jr., Rusty Whitaker, Rance Whitaker and Rilea Whitaker Sanders; great-grandchildren Madalyn, Katelyn, Rhett, Taylor, Braxton and Ryson. Dovie is also survived by a host of other friends and those who were not kin but to them she was their Aunt Dovie. Pallbearers will be Rodney Whitaker Jr., Rusty Whitaker, Rance Whitaker, Charles Whitaker, Nick Bass, Stanley Dover, Randy Few and Bobby Brashears. Honorary Pallbearers will be Danny Courcier, Brandon Sanders, Morgan Perkins, Josh Few, Carl Lane, Farrell Whitaker, Clint Whitaker, Roy Whitaker, Kevin Whitaker and Scott Whitaker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Dovie's name to Lilbert Baptist Church or to Lilbert Looneyville VFD.
