Clentis Wayne Morton, age 83, of Cushing, Texas, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, devotion to family, and a life well lived. He was born on October 12, 1942, in Camden, Texas, to James Clentis Morton and Lutherene Faulkner Newman Morton.
Wayne graduated from Woden High School in 1961. On January 17, 1964, he married the love of his life, Iva Nell Rogers Morton, in Nacogdoches, Texas. Together, they built a strong and loving family, raising their three children—Amanda, Bradley, and Amy—in Etoile, Texas, where they spent many cherished years.
In his younger days, Wayne could often be found on Lake Sam Rayburn, where he enjoyed fish guiding. His passion for the outdoors was unmatched, with a lifelong love for both fishing and hunting.
Wayne dedicated 35 years of service to the paper mill in Lufkin, Texas, while also operating his own custom hay baling business for many years. Never one to slow down, he later built a poultry farm in Cushing, Texas, where he and his family worked side by side while raising cattle for over 22 years before his eventual retirement. Wayne was known for his incredible work ethic and determination—able to accomplish anything he set his mind to, despite the challenge of having only one arm. Wayne served as a Deacon at Landmark Baptist Church in Cushing for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clint and Lutherene Morton.
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Iva Nell Morton; his children, Amanda Hogg (Rusty), Bradley Morton (Kim), and Amy Holloway (Victor); his five grandchildren, Mitchell Hogg, Emily Hogg, Sarah Morton, Samantha Morton Heimberg (Galen), and Chelsea Holloway; and one great-grandchild, Oakley Heimberg. He is also survived by his brothers, Wyman Morton (Ruth), Danny Morton (Cathy), and David Morton (Barbara); his uncle, Dr. Carlton Newman (Carol); along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be BJ Morton, Justin Morton, Jason Morton, Dalton Morton, Nick Y'Barbo, and Mike Evans. Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of Landmark Baptist Church.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Harbor Hospice nurse Brittany Wallace, as well as caregivers Sarai and Guadalupe Flores, for their compassionate care and support during this difficult time.
Wayne will be remembered for his strength, his unwavering dedication, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy will live on in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
