Funeral services for Birda Dixon Parker, 76, of Alto will be Monday, February 19th, at 10 am at the First Baptist Church in Alto with Rev. Jim Goforth officiating. Burial will follow in the Lynches Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Parker died Saturday in Jacksonville. She was born September 24, 1941 in Alto, Texas to John M. Dixon and Lillian Fowler Dixon. Birda had a Masters Degree in education and home economics and spent most of her life in education, helping children. She taught in several schools and retired in 2000 as special education director of Cherokee County Special Education Co-Op. She later returned to education at both Wells and Alto and was honored as teacher of the year. Birda had a passion for music and chose to serve the Lord as music director for several area church's. She loved the Lord and her life was a true example. She will be lovingly remembered by husband Harold Parker of Alto, sons Tracie Parker (Rhonda) of Alto and Scott Parker of Alto, brother John Paul Dixon (Charlotte) of Alto, grandchildren Michael, Haley, Cory, Coleman, Holly and Hope, 12 great grandchildren as well as nephews John, Paul and niece Mandy. She was preceded in death by her parents. Pallbearers will be Michael Parker, Jed Morris, Ty Hendrick, Brad Hamilton, Cory Davis and Coleman Davis. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home in Alto.
